Solar Water Heating

Solar water heating uses the energy of the sun for your benefit.  At Aztec Heat Pumps, we can install a system to meet your needs, serving customers in Suffolk and across East Anglia.  So how does a solar water heater work?

The sun’s rays are captured on the roof with flat panels or evacuated tubes. A simple device monitors the array and hot water cylinder temperature and switches on a pump to circulate the glycol. This transmits the heat energy from the array to the water via a coil in the cylinder. After being fed into the bulding, the heat not only powers the hot water cylinder, but also the radiatiors or underfloor heating to warm your home.

These will give all your hot water for ½ the year and help the boiler by pre-heating the rest of the year.

  • Reliable with low maintenance when designed and installed with care.
  • No running costs and give a considerable saving particularly with an all-electric building.
  • High power concentration requiring a small roof area.

Solar Thermal Water Heaters qualify for the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive Unfortunately RHI is going to discontinue for these next year so you may want to consider the solar PV with an Immersion driver option.

We know the range of solar water heating equipment on the market and can give you advice on your best options.  You can reply on us to install a system which will give reliable service with low maintenance, including quality hot water cylinders and hydraulics.  We use Joule cylinders, PAW hydraulics and Viessman collectors or a high quality evacuated heat tube collector.

We give an end to end service inculding all documents required for the RHI application.  When planning an installation for a new property, get us involved early.

Where is the best place to put the panels or tubes required for a solar water heating system?

The best place is the roof, particularly if it is south facing, as that maximises its exposures to the sun’s rays.

Will I need to replace my existing boiler if I have a solar water heating system installed?

Most conventional boiler and hot water cylinder systems are compatible with solar heating. We will be able to advise you about this.

What are the two main types of solar panels fitted as part of a water heating system?

Flat plate collectors, which can be fixed on the roof tiles or integrated into the roof, or evacuated tubes. These are a series of interlocking glass tubes which also capture the sun’s rays. The inner tubes have the air pumped out of them (evacuated) to improve the insulating and energy-generating qualities.

Will my system come with a warranty or guarantee?

Yes. The type or length will vary, depending on the brand of system we put in.
